Fan Season Preview: Birmingham City

Birmingham - Steve BruceThe new 07/08 Premiership season is set to kick-off in less than a month’s time, and we’ve been asking some of the leading club fansites and blogs for their opinion and views on how their team will do.

The popular Birmingham City blog, Joys & Sorrows have been kind enough to give us their thoughts on everything Blues-related.

Your view of Birmingham City last season

The ultimate goal was promotion. We achieved it albeit after a tough season with much in-house fighting. It was a grind. Blues fans now just want to put it in the past and concentrate on next season. Hopefully things will be more united this time around.

Your view on the the Blues pre-season spending

Overall I think most Blues fans are happy with what the club have done with the budget available. Kapo and De Ridder in particular are exciting the ‘noses. They’re unknown quantities and people are expecting big things from them. They’re certainly better value that over the top prices for English players who are half as good. It’s all about how they settle.

We’re better equipped this time than the last time we were in the Premiership. Perhaps a new left back, centre half and a supposed ‘big name’ signing and we’ll be done. I, for one, will be very happy with that.

Who is your enemy and why?

Aston Villa. Survival is the number one priority. Beating the Villa and hopefully aiming to finish above them is all else that matters to most Blues fans. Stuffing one up Matthew Upson and Robbie Savage would be a welcome bonus to the season too! Traitors!

Where you think you’ll finish in the Premiership this season?

An optimistic 14th if the signings work out…

Thanks again to Joys & Sorrows for their answers.

What “big name” do you think we should sign?

A centre half, please. The rumours are flying around. Sami Hyypia being the latest.
